Au Revoir Saks, Au Revoir Barneys

It's time to say good-bye to two major fashion retailers in Dallas.  The news came out this morning that Saks at the Galleria Dallas is closing.  Months ago, Barney's at Northpark announced that they would be closing too.  What is this?  Well, people don't dress in head-to-toe designer anymore.  Replacing Saks is more well-priced Belk.  I've never shopped at Belk... who am I kidding, I have never shopped at Saks or Barney's either!  I am a little sad, but I'm also excited for a new shopping destination at the Galleria.

Disney + Barney's Electric Holiday

You'll love Disney and Barney's New York's "Electric Holiday."  WWD did a runway review in one of this week's issues - it was so adorable.  I think the whole campaign is so clever!

Small4Style Interviews Simon Doonan at Barney's Dallas

Me with Simon Doonan
Simon Doonan, Barney’s Creative Ambassador-at-Large, was in Dallas Thursday signing copies of his new book, Gay Men Don’t Get Fat.  You might remember Simon as the famous window designer for Barney’s New York and from his appearances on Gossip Girl and America’s Next Top Model.  His husband is famous interior designer Jonathan Adler.  Simon’s hilarious book Gay Men Don’t Get Fat is filled with secrets to being fabulous.  When I arrived at Barney’s, the party was just starting, Simon said, “Stick around, there’s going to be zillions of people here later.”

While I got my books signed, I chatted with Simon about style.  I love to ask people about their style icons, because their answers always reflect their personalities.  Simon Doonan says, “I divide them all up into different categories,” a style icon for every occasion!  Simon’s “High Fashion” style icon is Daphne Guinness, “Pop” is Katy Perry, and “Red Carpet” is Tilda Swinton.  Wearing his signature floral shirt, he described his style as “Carnaby Street Mod.”

Meeting Simon Doonan at Barney’s New York at Northpark was such a treat.  I couldn’t have thought of a better way to kick off the New Year!  Remember to pick up a copy of Gay Men Don’t Get Fat at Barney’s or at bookstores, you won’t stop laughing.

Simon Doonan is Coming to Dallas!

Thursday January 12, Barney's window designer Simon Doonan is coming to the Barney's at Northpark to promote his new book, Gay Men Don't Get Fat.  As a true Simon Doonan fanatic, I am so excited for Simon to come to Dallas at Barney's (or as he says in his British accent, Bahhhney's)!  I picked up the book from Barnes and Noble this morning, it looks pretty fabulous!  I'm going to read it before I meet Simon on Thursday.

Fashion is not an Option
XOXO,
Alex

And I also love how Jonathan Adler and Barney's did email newsletter ads for Simon's book on the same day!  Advertising for each other, smart.  That's what husbands are for!

Gaga's Workshop at Barney's Northpark

Gaga's Workshop is on display at Barney's Northpark!  The merchandise is a little on the pricey side, 25% of proceeds go to the Born This Way Foundation.  I visited the Gaga wonderland with my brother Grant... We were going to bring along our cool cousin and Gaga-fanatic Brian, but he had to catch his flight to Austin.  Brian bought me the Gaga McQueen shoe earrings for Christmas!

One of my favorite items from Gaga's Workshop, a $65 magnetic dress-up doll

Grant didn't want me to put his picture on Small4Style...  Hehe
