Electric Makeup Gift Sets by One Direction

One Direction came out with a makeup line last summer and I have to say, these British boys have a knack for creating fun limited edition cosmetics sets.  Three new sets (which can be purchased from Macy's for $16.50 each) were recently released.  Highly-pigmented mascaras, lip glosses and nail polishes are perfect for adding a pop of color to your look.  With three great sets to choose from, it's easy to find a gift that every One Direction fan will love.

Create your own UV-reactive nail art with this kit of polishes and glitters.  The glitter is a little messy but it's worth it for a sparkly mani.

Nothing shakes up your makeup routine like a pop of color on your lashes.  The set comes with three mascaras: yellow, blue and pink.  and I haven't tried this yet, but apparently you can use the mascaras on your hair too!

These glosses are super-sparkly with a hint of vitamin E to keep your lips hydrated.  The glosses glow different colors under UV black light.

Now through Sunday, 12/14, enter to win your own Liquilights UV Lip Gloss Set by One Direction!  Follow the directions below to enter and I'll mail a lip gloss set to one winner:

Project Emilie: This Girl Loves Katydid Christmas Tees

Ho Ho Ho, Y'all.  Katydid Collection has a new line of holiday tees that will make your Christmas even more joyous.  You might remember when I was first introduced to Katydid Collection this past summer.  I loved the colorful prints and wearable pieces in the Katydid line.  Dallas-based designer, Katy Messersmith, has released her holiday 2014 line of cute, fun t-shirts to get you into the spirit of the season.

Everyone who's lucky enough to have met Emilie knows that she lives for holidays.  When a holiday is coming up, she decorates her room and brings out her stash of themed t-shirts.  When I told her that Katy was sending us Christmas shirts, she was pumped.  Katydid's "This Girl Loves Christmas" tee is perfect for Emilie.  Ho Ho Ho, Y'all and check out Katydid's fab Christmas collection.
We took these pictures on Thanksgiving when my cousins (Emilie's nieces), Jacqui and Julie, were in town.  They wanted to join in on the Katydid holiday fun!  Hope you enjoy these cute pictures and check out Katydid.
Merry Christmas!

Goop! Gwyneth Paltrow Opens Popup in Highland Park Village

Gwyneth Paltrow popped into Dallas a few weeks ago to unveil her new Goop popup shop in Highland Park Village.  Gwyneth surprised Dallasites as the "special guest" at a Goop event.  Seeing her was a special surprise indeed.  Does it get any better than a private tour of GP's store by the actual GP?  Even though she's one of Hollywood's most well-known actresses, she had this lovely, down to earth vibe that was really cool.  She was dressed like a normal person, which made her, and Goop, seem so relatable to everyone.
GP introduced the Goop concept in 2008 as a weekly email newsletter.  Since then, it's become a phenomenal fashion and lifestyle brand featuring Gwyneth's favorite products as well as fashions designed by GP and top designers.  Goop's products can be purchased online or if you're lucky, you may live in one of the cities where GP decides to pop up a temporary Goop shop.
Goop's Highland Park Village store is thoughtfully separated into sections that match a woman's lifestyle.  Upon opening the door at Goop, which is located at 3 Highland Park Village right next to Preston, you'll be awed with the variety of exclusive designer collaborations with Monique Lhuillier and Diane von Furstenberg.  You'll also spot the perfect gift for everyone on your list.  Step into the kitchen area to find cooking accessories and GP's cookbooks.  Retreat to the bedroom to try some of GP's favorite natural skincare products and luxurious monogrammed pajamas.  I wanted to transplant the entire Goop store into my house.

When Goop leaves Dallas on Dec. 14, don't fret.  You can still purchase Gwyneth's exclusive products on her website.  But seriously, get gooped up because Goop is fabulous!

KISS InstaWave Rotating Curling Iron = Pretty Curls!

Ready to get curls that "boing?"  I recently got a new beauty tool that gives you perfect curls with the touch of a button.  The KISS InstaWave is an automatic, rotating curling iron that makes the best ringlets I've been able to do on my own.  I love curly hair but I rarely do it because I get frustrated.  I've never mastered the art of wrapping my strands around the barrel effectively.  The InstaWave does that for me!  Just place a strand of hair in the rod, click the dial to the left or right, and the InstaWave will spin your hair into a curl without tangling it.

I thought it was a little hard to use at first, but with a few minutes of practice it was so easy to get bouncy curls.  So if you're having trouble with it at first, don't give up on it.  The trick is to hold it upright and release the curl gently.  My hair has never really curled well because they usually fall a few hours later.  My KISS InstaWave curls lasted overnight with little uncoiling.  You can set the heat setting high or low for tight or loose curls.

Looks likes I'll be sporting bouncy curls a lot more in the future!  Remember, Christmas is right around the corner and the InstaWave makes a great gift for you and your beauty-addicted loved ones.  The KISS InstaWave is available at Ulta and Target.

Edo Popken Galleria Dallas Pop Shop!

Menswear designer Edo Popken is bringing his one-of-a-kind European menswear to Galleria Dallas, which is the site for the new Edo Popken of Switzerland popup shop.

“The opening of Edo Popken’s popup shop further showcases the center [Galleria Dallas] as a destination for the latest in fashion and style,” said the Galleria Dallas General Manager Angie Freed.

Beginning Tuesday, Nov. 25 (tomorrow!), customers can shop Edo Popken’s upscale menswear collection at the Galleria, just in time for the holidays.

In addition to the popup, Popken runs his only U.S. store in
Dallas’ District on Dragon Street, which opened in 2013. In Dallas, Popken’s collection of color-blocked polo shirts is the most popular and recognizable product group.

with Edo Popken

From formal men’s suits to daywear, Edo Popken of Switzerland offers a wide array of men’s apparel and accessories. At Monday’s preview event, Popken pointed out some of the unique features on his pieces, like the curve on the edge of a vest to match the curve of a shirt tail. For Popken, every detail matters.

The popup had just a few items on the shelves Monday night. But Popken assured guests that it would be fully-stocked and ready for the opening on Nov. 25.

According to Popken, the Galleria Dallas popup shop deal was settled last Friday, just a few days before the celebration on last Monday night. The new 3,000-square-foot Edo Popken popup was previously home to luxury menswear boutique Faconnable.

“To be on the luxury level between Michael Kors and Coach, [it] could not be any better,” said Popken.

The designer, who is a fourth-generation European fashion designer, produces his garments in limited quantities of 111 per style. Each numbered item is made with European fabrics that are custom-made for Popken exclusively.

Popken also said he was thrilled to open the popup during the peak holiday shopping season.

“I rarely get excited about business, but this one here is wicked,” said Popken of his new Galleria Dallas popup.

Edo Popken of Switzerland will officially open its popup at the Galleria Dallas on Tuesday, Nov. 25. Until then, remember Mr. Popken’s slogan, “life is short, dress up for it!”

Go for the Gold with Kiss my Face and Philip Kingsley

The 2014 Winter Olympics ended a few weeks ago, but that doesn't mean we have to stop goin' for the gold!  Here's a little lineup of products that can bring out the Olympian in all of us.
As you may remember, Kiss My Face is a naturally glamorous skincare brand that I discovered recently.  The Peaceful Patchouli shower gel has a subtly calming smell, and it makes a great bubble bath.  Kiss My Face also offers a line of fresh-scented deodorants that can almost double as perfume.  My favorite is the soothing lavender.

Swimmers aren't the only ones who benefit from Philip Kingsley's Swimcap.  The product is a lot like the Elasticizer by Philip Kingsley but you don't have to let it sit in your hair for as long.  So it's great for when you're in a hurry.  It sounds like a summer essential to protect hair from chlorine and sun.

Speaking of gold, we'll be discussing Oscar's fashion soon!

Peter Pilotto for Target Arrives this Sunday

Fellow label lovers, rejoice!  London-based fashion brand Peter Pilotto hits Target this Sunday, February 9!  Target really hit the bullseye on this one.  The collection is vibrant, colorful, and full of life.  But whether you love taking fashion risks or you prefer a more quiet style, there's something for you in the collection.  I really like how Target styled the lookbook on their site, but customers will be able to easily integrate one or two Peter Pilotto pieces into their everyday wardrobes without going too crazy as well.

I'll be at Target right when they open on Sunday because I think this might be the next Missoni.  What do you think?  I'll be showing you how to style your new Peter Pilotto fashions after its release on Sunday so stay tuned!

I think 2014 is Going to be the Year of Project Emilie... What do you Think?

This morning I was just thinking about how blessed I am to have so many loving people around me.  I look at Emilie's sweet face and it makes me so happy.  Today, think about the people that mean the most to you and give them a big hug.  I want to go forward as a more mindful person by thinking about the good people in my life.  And if you get sad or discouraged, just think of Emilie.  Her pure, loving spirit always makes me feel better.

PS - Attention Project Emilie Fans: You'll be happy to know that we've got lots of fun stuff planned for the year!  We'll start working on new photoshoots soon.  I'll give you one hint, there's going to be one involving a fan and flowing dresses.

Natural Skincare = Kiss My Face!

With more freezing weather and Valentine's Day coming up, I thought you might like to know about some natural skincare products that have helped to nourish my skin this season.  Kiss My Face is an all-natural brand that covers every skincare and beauty need under the sun.  I'll be honest, I usually don't associate "natural" with "glamour."  This is definitely not the case with Kiss My Face.  The two Kiss My Face products I've tried have helped me achieve the great skin I need as a foundation for all of the primping I do!

The Olive & Aloe Moisturizer for sensitive skin is so convenient because it's gentle enough to use on your face, hands, and body.  It doesn't leave a greasy layer of residue - your skin will literally drink up this stuff.  I use it as a makeup primer, especially when my skin needs a little more moisture.

The organic "Sliced Peach" lip balm has a soothing, aromatherapy-like scent.  I use it to get those kissable lips that are so hard to keep during winter!

Kiss My Face doesn't have to hide behind artificial dyes and chemicals to be fabulous.  I learned that natural is beautiful.  Find Kiss My Face products at your local natural market stores and online.  They even sell them at my alma mater, Ursuline Academy of Dallas!

PS: Kiss My Face has a line of really cute Valentine's Day products.  Check it out on their website!

Fashion Stars for a Cause 2014: Let's Raise $$$$ for the Suicide and Crisis Center of North Texas!

The new year allows us to start fresh and set meaningful goals to work toward.  This year, the Suicide and Crisis Center of North Texas (SCC) will be my charity of choice in support of the Fashion Stars for a Cause event.  I'm selling raffle tickets for $50 each or 3 for $100 to raise money for SCC.  The big prize is a getaway for 2 to Cabo San Lucas!  Sounds pretty fabulous to me!

The SCC helps people who are affected by suicide with programs like Survivors of Suicide and Teens Can Survive.  The Center also manages a 24-hour hotline.  I got the opportunity to visit the Suicide and Crisis Center with a few of the other Fashion Stars.  I learned so much about how important this cause is, and how many people are really affected by it.  Did you know that 14% of high school students consider suicide?  That means that almost 30 girls from my class at Ursuline thought about suicide.  But the SCC faces this issue head-on and literally saves lives.

If you would like to help us in our fight against suicide, I urge you to buy raffle tickets.  100% of your contribution will go directly to the Center because they don't receive federal funding.  Raffle tickets are $50 each or 3 for $100.  Please send a check to:

Alex Small
P.O. Box 670603
Dallas, TX

If you prefer purchasing raffle tickets online, follow this link.  Make sure to write "2014 FSFAC - Alex Small" in the description box before you enter your card information.

Back in December 2013, Beverly Drive Magazine hosted a really fun event to get everyone excited about supporting the SCC.  I'm always so impressed by all of the hard work Yvonne Crum puts into every one of her events because they're always amazing and lots of fun!  And her dedication to the Suicide and Crisis Center is so inspiring.

Here are the 12 Fashion Stars of 2014!  They're all exceptionally nice and fashionable, and I'm so looking forward to being part of the event with them!
Britt Harless - Designer of Bohem Unique Gems
Janee Harrell-Hill- Television Producer

Hilary Kennedy - TV Host, Style Blogger, Volunteer
