SMU Fashion Week 2013: Retail Club Fashion Show

WOW!  What a fabulous week it was at SMU.  It was a beautiful day for a fashion show for the finale of SMU Fashion Week.  The show was produced by SMU students with student models and the fashion looks were sponsored by Tootsies.  All I can say is well done SMU Retail Club!
P.S. - Thank you Rebecca Marin, Julia Eggleston, Daniella Lopez, and Kelsey Reynolds for all that you did to make SMU Fashion Week possible.  And thank you for naming me Most Stylish of SMU Fashion Week and for reserving a front row seat for me!

SMU Fashion Week 2013: The Panels

SMU Fashion Week brought fashion industry professionals to campus this week with 3 days of lively panel discussions.  SMU students got the opportunity to interact with these professionals and get their adviceHere is a breakdown of the panels this year:
 - Amber Venz and Baxter Box of rewardStyle
- Finley Moll of Finley Shirts, buyer Mollie Spicer of Neiman Marcusdesigner Prashi Shah, and Alison Volk of Volk PR
- Curator Myra Walker
Amber Venz is the genius behind rewardStyle, an invitation only site for bloggers to monetize their blogs.  They offer affiliate links to products from 3,000 retailers and 10,000 blogs belong to their site.  She talked about why people like following blogs because it is like following a personality and a storyline.  It is important for a blogger to have an authentic voice.

Day 2 was a panel jam-packed with fashion experts.  My favorite person from the panel was Mollie Spicer, ladies' shoes buyer for Neiman Marcus.  Aside from having my dream job, Mollie had some great advice for the students in the crowd.  Adding onto the advice of the other panelists about the dedication and hard work it takes to work in the industry, she said it is important to do your research.

The keynote speaker was Myra Walker, curator and Texas Fashion Collection Director.  She talked about the importance of traveling to see fashion exhibitions around the world because, "it is for your own good."  The famous Dallas Museum of Art exhibit, The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier, was a big part of her talk.  She also discussed her experiences of traveling to see exhibits, which is something I hope to do one day too.

SMU Fashion Week 2013: The Kickoff Party at Mockingbird Station

The second annual SMU Fashion Week kicked off last night with a stylish soiree at Mockingbird Station's Angelika Theater to celebrate this exciting time for the fashion-obsessed at SMU.  Lisa Petty of DFW Style Daily and model Adam George of Wallflower Management were fabulous hosts.  In addition to seeing my fellow SMU stylistas and of course, Lisa, I met Silver Hogue of Mockingbird Station and two fashion students from El Centro, Nicole and Arielle.  After mingling, getting a manicure, and shopping at the Movida Boutique pop-up shop, guests could watch an outside screening of The September Issue.

Daniella Lopez, Julia Eggleston, and Rebecca Marin are heading up SMU Fashion Week this year.  So far it's off to a great start.  As far as I can tell, it is going to be an exciting week.  Stay tuned for more coverage of the events to come.

SMU Fashion Week Finale: Retail Club Fashion Show

SMU Fashion Week was a huge success.  The festivities ended last evening with the Retail Club fashion show, featuring clothes from The Shak at Stanley Korshak.  Some of the jewelry featured on the runway was from from my friend Taylor Miller's Hazen Jewelry collection.  I had a great time at the show, check out some gorgeous photos I snapped on the runway!
