Small 4 Style Interviews Tamar Minassian

Tamar Minassian, Tootsies stylist, consults with clients and styles the store’s trend events.  I was so thrilled to hear her speak at the Styling and Design Panel during SMU Fashion Week!  Tamar studied fashion merchandising at Wade College here in Dallas, and eventually found her niche in styling.  As a stylist, Tamar says, “I get to play dress up every day and do what I love.”  The fast-paced fashion industry “always keeps me interested and excited”.

Tamar shared her best piece of advice for aspiring industry professionals, “You have to really love it.  Know what you are good at, and capitalize on it.  Keep your eyes open, make good connections and be ready to work your butt off.”  I wouldn’t expect anything less from a former intern and employee of one of my fashion icons, Jan Strimple.  During college, she interned part-time after classes, and eventually ended up working full time for Ms. Strimple after graduating.  During SMU Fashion Week, Tamar also discussed the importance of having personal relationships with leaders in the industry, as well as doing internships to get hands-on experience in your field.

Tamar’s favorite spring trend is “candy for the eyes” colored denim!  While in Paris, colored jeans were the only kind of jeans they wore so she was glad to get the opportunity again here in the states.  “Tres chic!”  Her style icons are the actual designers, because “they inspire us to find our own style.”  One question that I always like to ask is to describe your style in two words.  Tamar confided to me that she thought about this question for days.  Her response: “Two words?!! (... I can't!).”  I laughed so hard!

In meeting Tamar at the Tootsies SMU Fashion Week Launch Party, immediately I felt her enthusiasm for fashion and people.  I appreciated getting to do an interview with her, and felt really fortunate that I had the opportunity to meet her.  How great is that!
